The founder, rené lalique, was a master ceramist and jeweler. Born in the small village of ay in 1860, he was raised in both paris and ay. He studied art formally at college turgot. At the age of 12, he began an apprenticeship with a goldsmith in paris, and later he studied at london’s sydenham art college. He designed jewelry for such esteemed houses as cartier and boucheron. He forever affected jewelry with his pieces inspired by nature that depicted animals and the female form. Later, he partnered with perfumer francois coty to make beautiful glass vessels for coty’s scents. The first lalique scent appeared in 1931.
